water is mineral water having been shown to produce curative effects
including treatment of mobility complaints and skin complaints
or in the form of drinking cures, kidney and metabolism disorders
and stomach ailments.

is a center for medical excellence with many specialist hospitals,
including one of the most respected specialist Heart Centres in
Europe.

is a member of the EU, UK citizens should qualify for health benefits
under the Hungarian National Health Service (OTBF) provided you
are of pensionable age (E121).
- Those below
pensionable age will need to be covered by insurance if living
permanently in Hungary.
- Holidaymakers
who have an E111 will be covered for emergency treatment although
it is always recommended that you take out specialist travel insurance.
- There are
an abundance of private medical and dental practices in Hungary
whose charges are modest in comparison with the West. Many from
West Europe travel to Hungary for their medical and dental needs.
- The tap water
in Hungary is generally safe to drink.
SHOPPING
- Hungary still
has a tradition of local shopping with many small shops selling
local produce.
- Larger superstores
are now enhancing the availability of a wide variety of goods
from all over the world.
- In particular,
Tesco have invested heavily in Hungary and more stores are planned.
- Generally
everyday goods and particularly foodstuffs will be cheaper in
Hungary than the UK.
TRAVEL
- Hungary
is located at the heart of Europe, where East meets West.
- There is
easy access from the UK to Budapest International Airport with
flight times varying from around 2 hours via Luton to 2.20 hours
from Manchester.

several low cost carriers providing direct lights to Budapest

- Hungary
is also well situated for access to other central European destinations
such as Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, Ukraine and Greece.

Lake
Balaton
- Lake Balaton
is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe and is generally
shallow, the average depth being a mere three to four metres.
- The water
warms quickly particularly in Spring and Summer to 20 –
22oC and occasionally even reaches 28oC.
- The Southern
shore is favoured by families and even the smaller children can
play on the sandy and grassy beaches and in the shallow water.
- The Northern
shore is deeper and many centres for water sports are located
here.
- The lake
is well monitored and a series of warning lamps exist to alert
during times of storm.
- Lake Balaton
is a huge area to the west of Budapest and is a popular center
for relaxation and leisure as well as being one of the most sought
after locations for residential property.
- A wide variety
of leisure pursuits are available including horse riding, fishing,
sailing, wind surfing, cycling, hiking, walking, rock climbing
and swimming.
- Of particular
interest is the historic peninsular of Tihany which includes an
ancient monastery and village dating from the middle ages and
was a burial place for the Hungarian Royal Family.
- It is an
area of great interest and natural beauty.
Budapest
- Budapest
is the Capital of Hungary and is known as the Queen of the Danube.
- It spreads
from the hills at Buda to the flat land at Pest with the River
Danube in between. It has been called the City of Bridges and
the City of Culture.
- It is acknowledge
as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and is a bustling
center with a population of around 2 million.
- It has a
diverse architectural heritage and offers a wide variety of entertainment
for visitors.
- There are
around 130 mineral and medicinal springs in Budapest and a variety
of specialist Health Spars and treatment hotels.
